PalmPay has rolled out NightGuard, a security feature that gives customers an additional verification step for transfers made during hours they select, the fintech company said in a statement on Saturday.

The feature, available through PalmPay’s upgraded Security Centre, allows customers to set a protection window between 11 p.m. and 7 a.m. Transfer attempts made during the selected period require additional verification before they can be completed, according to the company.

The move comes as digital payments become increasingly embedded in everyday transactions in Nigeria, while users continue to face risks including scams, impersonation and unauthorised access to accounts.

“While fraud can happen at any time, there are situations where a compromised or lost phone can create additional risks at night,” Head of PalmPay Nigeria Marketing, Femi Hanson, said in the statement. “Giving customers more control over when additional verification is required can provide another layer of protection.”

PalmPay said the feature is intended to give customers greater control over the security of their accounts and transactions, particularly during periods when unusual activity may be less likely to be noticed.

NightGuard forms part of the security tools available through PalmPay’s Security Center. The company also said customer education remains an important component of its efforts to improve digital-payment security.

The feature allows users to apply additional verification during a defined period rather than requiring the extra security check for every transfer.
